Bell’s Canyon, Utah

Among all the other amazing things to do and see in Utah, a great one is to hike up Bell’s Canyon. The Bell’s Canyon Trail starts at the base of Little Cottonwood Canyon in Sandy, Utah. Little Cottonwood is also where two great ski resorts are found: Snowbird and Alta. Both also have a lot to offer in the summertime, so popping up there for a meal after your hike is always a great option.
The hike itself is pretty mellow, until you get higher up where it is pretty steep and rocky, but a lot of fun. About twenty minutes up the hike, there is a beautiful reservoir where you can Catch and Release fish. There is also a dirt road that leads up to the reservoir. It is very serene and easy to get to and is definitely worth seeing.
If you continue onward up the trail, you meet the river that winds down the entire canyon. Depending on the time, the river can either be slow and serene or fast and intense. Either way, it provides a great atmosphere and wonderful photo opportunities. The trail then follows the river up the canyon. After following the river up for a little bit, about forty five minutes or so, it becomes a more difficult hike, but what comes next is definitely worth the effort.
About two hours up the hike, you end up on the side of the mountain and you will come across an amazing waterfall. This part of the trail will be especially difficult if you are not comfortable with heights. The trail is very small, and both above and below you is just steep mountain. You can cross the waterfall and the hike continues up and onward. If you continue on, you will reach other waterfalls, as well as great look-out points from large boulders.
Bell’s Canyon Trail is a beautiful hike and wonderful way to spend a morning or afternoon. Also, it is a great place to take lots of beautiful nature pictures.
