Sleep - Saular’s Answer

Sleep is an interesting anomaly. I think dreams are humans’ outlets to different planes of existence. We are more alive on a more “soul” level. Another thought I find interesting, is that possibly dreaming is existence for our souls. Therefore, when our souls sleep, we are awake. It’s like a symbiotic relationship between ourselves and our souls.
This idea is portrayed intriguingly in the Philip Pullman trilogy, His Dark Materials (The Golden Compass, The Subtle Knife, and The Amber Spyglass), where peoples’ souls are actually manifested in animals that are their companions.
Although that was kind of a tangent, I do think that dreams give us the deepest insight into our souls that human beings can have. That is the importance of dreaming. Sleep is our conduit to the dream world, which completes us, hence the mandatory nature of sleeping and dreaming.
